One piece or one passage, up to about five minutes of playing. You get a video reply from me within three calendar days of payment.
Not everyone can come to Los Altos for a lesson, and not every question needs a weekly commitment. Sometimes one passage will not come together. Sometimes you want to know whether the fingering you chose is the reason your hand gets tired. These are the questions I answer for my students in the room every week. This is the same thing, by video.
How it works
- Record yourself playing the piece or the passage. A phone is fine. Make sure both hands are in the picture.
- Put the video somewhere I can watch it: an unlisted YouTube link, or a shared iCloud, Google Drive or Dropbox link.
- Fill in the short form below and pay. Payment goes through Stripe, the same as the store.
- Within three calendar days of payment you will get an email from me with my video reply.
What I look at
Tone and how you produce it. Tension in the hands, the shoulders and the breath. Fingering choices, and whether they are working for you or against you. Phrasing, rhythm and the shape of the piece. And how you are practising it, because that is usually where the answer is. I will tell you what I see and what I would do first.
