My work begins with the guitar. As a performer and teacher, I listen for tone, phrasing and the shape of a piece. I bring that same attention to recording your playing.

I record for Naxos with producer Norbert Kraft and edit my own recordings, both sound and picture. These sessions bring that experience to fellow musicians at my studio in Los Altos.

Ask about a session

A recording lets you hear your playing from the other side of the room. It can document your progress, introduce your music to others, or become part of an audition or application. We plan the session around what you need it for.

What you get

Time in the studio, several takes within your booked session, and finished audio and video files to keep. We choose the takes together. Delivery is usually within a week, after any agreed editing. An unlisted YouTube upload is available if you would like a link to share.

For auditions and competitions: send me the requirements before we book. We follow the rules for that submission, including a continuous, unedited take where required. We do not splice takes or add camera cuts when the rules prohibit them.

For personal and presentation recordings: we can edit the sound and picture. We agree on the finished pieces and editing before the session.

Sessions and prices

$300 for a one-hour session.

For one piece, or two short pieces that fit the session. Audio and video, prepared for the purpose we agree on.

$800 for a programme.

Two to three hours for a programme of up to four or five pieces, depending on their length. We agree on the repertoire and finished files before booking. Both sessions can be used for audition recordings or edited personal videos.

Please include the lengths of your pieces and any submission deadline in your inquiry. We will confirm the session, editing and delivery date before you commit.

If you study with me, we can plan the session around your lessons. Just ask.

Who this is for

Classical guitarists preparing an audition or competition entry, students documenting their progress, and players who want to share a piece they have worked on with care. You do not need to study with me to book a session.

Other instrumentalists and singers are welcome to inquire as well. The studio is set up around solo guitar, so tell me what you play and we will discuss whether the room and equipment are a good fit before you book.

How it works

1. Write to me with what you would like to record and when you need it by.
2. We pick a date. Come with the pieces ready to play through.
3. We record several takes within the booked time and choose them together.
4. I prepare and send the files by the agreed date, usually within a week.
