Right hand pattern

Etude No. 1 has been my good friend for many years. It is a beautiful piece in itself besides being a great arpeggio exercise. While I can see value in trying to work up the right hand fingerings pattern indicated by Segovia, I came to a decision to change it to one that results in better evenness in rhythm, tone and gradual dynamics progression (crescendo on the way up and diminuendo on the way down).

In Segovia’s edition, the right hand pattern is:
pipi pmia maim pipi.

I suggest using this pattern instead:
pipi pipm iaim pipi.
